Three reasons to recraft your boots

Posted on February 2, 2016

Worn bootsBoots wear out. Whether you’re working the land, riding the range, or just looking smooth in the big city, there will come a day when your favorite boots will give up the ghost.

And that’s a sad day.

We know how it is. You fall in love with your boots. They break in just right and are with you every step of the way. They become like best friends who never let you down. And when they wear out, you have a hard time letting go.

Well, we have good news: you don’t have to let go.

You can recraft them instead. Here are three reasons why you should recraft your favorite boots.

1. The Look

Recrafting your boots is like sending them through a time machine. They come back like new–but are still a perfect fit for your feet. It gives new life to your old friends! They are sent back to the factory, completely disassembled, and are re-built just like new.

2. The Fit

When your soles are wearing thin, you might think all you need to do is find a local shoe shop to resole your boots. Don’t. They simply tear off the sole and put on a new one based on their own measurements. They can’t maintain your perfect size integrity.

At Logan Western Supply, craftsmen use the exact same last that was originally used to size your boots. (A “last” is a foot-shaped piece of wood used by shoemakers to shape and create the shoe or boot.) Your boots come back to you fitting like the same boots you’ve always had, but looking brand new and with new soles. When it comes to resoling vs. recrafting, recrafting always wins.

At Logan Western Supply, we can help you recraft your boots.

3. The Cost

It’s fun to buy new boots. But it’s also fun to breathe new life into your old favorites. Plus, by saving your old boots, you are saving money. A finely recrafted boot usually costs approximately 1/3 of buying new boots. So recraft, and use the difference to save up for that next pair of new boots!
